It's more common that Varicose patient having pain since swelling of veins happens. If the pain is minimal it is advisable to take paracetamol 650mg twice daily for 3 days. If pain is severe HIFENAC P twice daily for 3 days. Take one of above for pain alongwith a gastric tablet CYRA D twice/once daily before food. To address root cause Varicose vein Stockings of suitable size should be wore. If Colour Doppler investigation already done, depending on the severity it will be considered for Conservative or Surgical treatment. 2 pillow height below the legs while sleeping is advised.
Elevate the leg above heart level for 15–30 minutes, several times a day
Avoid standing or sitting for long periods
Gentle walking can improve circulation . it can be a chronic venous insufficiency if this thighs does't help better go on with medication
Varicose veins occur when the veins in the legs become enlarged and weak due to poor functioning of the vein valves, leading to improper blood circulation and pooling of blood in the legs. Over time this can cause:
• pain and heaviness in the legs,
• burning or throbbing sensation,
• swelling around feet/ankles,
• visible twisted veins,
• skin discoloration or darkening,
• itching or eczema-like skin changes,
• tightness and fatigue while standing or walking,
• in advanced cases, skin ulceration or inflammation.
The severe pain your mother is experiencing may be due to:
• worsening venous congestion,
• inflammation in the veins,
• swelling and pressure buildup,
• prolonged standing,
• associated edema/fluid retention,
• skin inflammation around varicose veins,
• thrombophlebitis (vein inflammation/clot) in some cases,
• or associated circulation problems.
Please do not ignore severe pain, especially if there is:
• sudden increase in swelling,
• redness/warmth,
• severe tenderness,
• fever,
• difficulty walking,
• skin ulcer,
• or one leg becoming more swollen than the other.
In such situations, Doppler ultrasound evaluation is important to rule out serious venous complications.
For reducing pain and slowing progression, supportive care is very important:
• avoid prolonged standing or sitting continuously,
• elevate legs while resting,
• gentle walking improves circulation,
• avoid tight clothing around legs,
• maintain healthy body weight,
• reduce excessive salt intake if swelling is present,
• use compression stockings only after proper medical advice,
• avoid scratching affected skin.
If skin changes are already present, proper skin care is important because chronic venous stasis can lead to eczema, pigmentation, and ulcers.
Regarding treatment, modern medicine may suggest:
• compression therapy,
• medicines for venous circulation,
• laser treatment,
• sclerotherapy,
• or surgery depending on severity.
Regarding homeopathy, individualized treatment may help in some patients by reducing:
• venous congestion,
• heaviness and pain,
• swelling tendency,
• burning and discomfort,
• inflammatory changes,
• progression of skin involvement.
In my clinical experience, some patients with chronic varicose veins and associated pain have experienced symptomatic relief and improvement in comfort with constitutional treatment and proper lifestyle management. However, if there is advanced valve damage or severe vein enlargement, treatment mainly aims at management and slowing progression rather than claiming guaranteed permanent reversal.
Since the condition appears painful and possibly advanced, I would strongly advise:
• Doppler venous study,
• checking for diabetes/BP,
• proper vascular or physician evaluation,
• and detailed assessment before deciding treatment.
Please do not delay evaluation if pain is severe or worsening.
