Now, I am extremely happy with the recognition dentists get today.” Not the kind to take his vocation lightly, Dr. Gowd, has, against all odds, financial, social, and educational, pursued the highest levels of academics, skill training, and it is a testimonial to his commitment that he still keeps travelling regularly to foreign countries to attend conferences, workshops, and seminars, several times presenting papers himself and apart from all these activities he penned down number of books in various languages to create awareness among people on oral health. Though coming from a family where his father was not educated formally, the emphasis on education made sure that after his graduation from Osmania Medical College, he was sent to Bombay because PG courses were available only there those days. “If it is not for my father’s insistence on pursuing higher studies at London, I wouldn’t have grown this much”, beams Dr. Gowd proudly, remembering his parents’ contribution to his success. Starting Cosmetic Dentistry in our state in the year 1989, Dr. Gowd overcame the amusement and sarcasm people responded with when addressed to about cosmetic dentistry. With the aid of media, he was successful in addressing the phobia associated with dentistry that any procedure is necessarily painful. “Now the last thing a dentist does is removing teeth”, laughs Dr. Gowd.
