About Dr Avnish Seth

Dr. Avnish Seth is director and HOD, Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Sciences at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon and is director of Fortis Organ Retrieval and Transplantation (Fort). He then worked as a consultant to the Armed Forces In Gastroenterology And Hepatobiliary Sciences with a special interest in advanced GI Endoscopic procedures and treatment of liver 2004 he was appointed as a head of the department at the prestigious army hospital (research & referral) New Delhi where he was designated Gastroenterologist to the president of India. He initiated the DNB (Gastroenterology) program in 2006 he concluded a 6 months Fellowship in Liver Transplantation in the UK and established a successful liver transplant program at army hospital (R&R). Formerly, professor of medicine at Delhi University (2004) and Indraprastha University (2008), he has served as governing council member for Indian Society Of Gastroenterology (ISG) and Society Of GI Endoscopy Of India (SGEI). In 2007, Dr. Seth launched the Armed Forces Organ Retrieval & Transplantation Authority (AORTA). As a founding director, he spearheaded the most successful campaign on organ donation after brain death in north India which has resulted in over 70 liver transplants, 140 kidney and cornea transplants and 3 heart transplants. He was a member of the government of India, ministry of health & family welfare committee on the formulation of national guidelines for liver transplantation in 2007. He was awarded the Vishisht Sewa medal for meritorious service by the president of India on 26 January 2009. Dr. Seth took premature retirement from armed forces medical services in 2009. He then headed the department of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases at BLK Superspeciality Hospital from 2009-11. He completed a Fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound from the Medical University Of South Carolina And University Of Alabama Birmingham, the USA in 2011. He joined Fortis Group Of Hospitals in 2012. Dr. Seth has a special interest in advance GI endoscopic procedures and has over 100 publications to his name.
