January 29, 2026

Momos are some of the most consumed junk foods that people often enjoy indulging in. Momos are mostly dumplings that are made of flour with different types of stuffing inside them. These dumplings are either steamed or fried, and they are some of the most widely consumed foods in the Northeastern parts of India.

This article will help you to get a detailed account of the calorie content in momos, whether you should have momos, if there are any nutrients in momos at all, and other necessary details.

Calorie content in momos:

The net amount of calories in one plate of momos can largely depend on the way you prepare it. For instance, if the stuffing of your momo dumplings is made of paneer, then the calorie content is likely to be low, but the amount of calories will increase when the momos have chicken or mutton as their stuffing. But, on average, the calorie content of one plate of vegetable momos can be somewhere around 180 to 220 kcal, whereas, for chicken mom, the calorie content can be approximately 220 to 260 kcal. The calorie content of momos can increase much more when momos are deep-fried or served with any kind of sauce.

Is there any nutrient in momos?

Momos are some of the least nutritious foods possible. But, since they are often made of chicken and vegetables in their stuffing, they can be a bit healthy. Some of the macronutrients and micronutrients that are present in momos can be listed here as follows:

1. Carbohydrates: Almost 30 to 35 grams of carbohydrates can be present in one plate containing around 6 momos, which is derived mostly from the flour used for making the dough and the dumplings.

2. Protein: You can get almost 6 to 8 grams of protein when you are consuming vegetable momos, but the protein content can increase to around 10 to 15 grams if you are consuming chicken momos, because you can derive quite some amount of protein from the chicken in the momo stuffing.

3. Fats: Momos are made of flour, which can add quite some fat to your diet. You can derive almost 3 to 5 grams of fat from one plate of momos.

4. Vitamins and minerals: There are almost trace amounts of vitamins and minerals that are present in momos. These nutrients are mostly available from the stuffing that you use - for instance, you get some amounts of minerals such as iron and zinc, vitamins like vitamin B12 and vitamin C, and some amounts of antioxidants from vegetables like cabbage, onions, garlic, and herbs that you use in momos.

Some benefits of having momos:

 Here is a list of some of the most common health benefits that one can enjoy from having momos:

 Momos can provide you with protein that adds to your daily protein intake

 Steamed momo is low in fat content, provides satiety, and can lift your mood

 The vegetables in the momo stuffing can be somewhat beneficial for your health.

Which doctor should you consult before consuming Ice cream?

If you consult any healthcare expert regarding the consumption of momos, then your doctor is most likely to advise you to consume junk foods like momos in moderation. This is mostly because consuming momos daily or in high amounts can adversely affect your overall health and body functioning.

Before you start having momos, you can consult an expert dietitian or a nutritionist who will be able to guide you regarding how many momos you can have based on calorie intake, how to prepare momos to make them healthier, whether you can have momos at all or not, and other details. If needed, you can also talk to a diabetic or cardiac expert if you have high blood sugar or blood pressure levels.

Final Thoughts:

Momos are some of the most consumed junk foods, and they are loved by all for their soothing taste. It is high in calorie content and contains low amounts of nutrients like protein from chicken, fats, carbohydrates from flour, and some nutrients from its stuffing. Though it can help you to have some energy and enhance your mood, you must always consume momos in limited quantities to avoid the risks of side effects.
