Dr. Rajesh Modi
DNB - Obstetrics & Gynecology, DGO, FCPS - Mid. & Gynae
Gynecology
Dr. Rajesh Modi, a gynecologist & endoscopic surgeon, is a pioneer in 3D laparoscopic surgery for fibroids and uterine problems that require either a myomectomy (fibroid removal) or a hysterectomy (Uterus removal). He has refined the technique and made it a Day Care procedure. What is day care surgery? Day Care surgery is admitting the patient in the morning, laparoscopic hysterectomy or myomectomy being performed, and the patient is recovered comfortably enough to be discharged within 24 hours. We however, have been able to refine the technique and improvise even further to be able to allow the patient to be discharged on the same day after surgery. What are the advantages of day care surgery? The concept of day care is not about sending the patient home. It’s to make sure that the patient is recovered completely and is painfree by the same evening of the surgery. She should be able to walk around, eat normal food, and take care of her own needs herself, without being dependent completely. In addition, shorter hospital stay enables the patient to be back in the comfortable home surroundings early. Also, it allows the rest of the family to get back to the routine quickly. What surgeries can be done as day care? My work as a gynecologist is focused on mainly 3D laparoscopic hysterectomy (uterus removal) and myomectomy (fibroid removal). Though it also includes all other gynecological procedures for 3D laparoscopic surgery like tubal block removal, recanalization and ovarian cyst removal. What size fibroids can be removed by 3D laparoscopic surgery? It is individualized. The size or the number of the fibroids to be removed depends on multiple patient factors. 3D laparoscopy has many advantages that make the surgery easy. We have also refined the technique for fibroid removal which significantly reduces the blood loss in the myomectomy and makes fibroid removal almost a bloodless surgery and very convenient.
