Biliary stent placement is a minimally invasive procedure used to open a blocked or narrowed bile duct. A small tube called a stent is inserted into the bile duct to keep it open and allow bile to flow properly from the liver to the intestine.
Bile plays an important role in digestion, and when its flow is blocked, it can lead to symptoms such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin), abdominal pain, nausea, and infection.
This procedure helps relieve these symptoms and improves liver function. It is commonly performed using techniques like endoscopy or image-guided procedures.
