Dr Mukherjee has received his medical and surgical training from the most respected institutes of this country. He joined MBBS at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at New Delhi in the year 1991. After completing his basic medical training he immediately joined the surgical training programme also at AIIMS and completed his Masters in Surgery in the year 2000. Subsequently to specialize further in surgery of the kidney bladder and prostate and to train for uro- oncosurgery and kidney transplant he joined the Mch programme at PGI Chandigarh. After completion of the training at Chandigarh, Dr Mukherjee came to Kolkata- the city of joy and joined the exceptional team of surgeons at Wockhardt hospital and Kidney institute, lead by Dr Shibaji Basu MS FRCS, and Dr Kalyan Sarkar MS FRCS. After working for 8 years in this department Dr Avishek Mukherjee started heading the team at National Kidney and Prostate clinic, from the year 2010 onwards till date. Speciality fields of interest Laser prostate surgery- Dr Avishek Mukherjee has been one of the pioneering surgeons to apply lasers to treat benign enlargement of the prostate gland. Till date he has performed more than 290 complete HOLEP (Holmium) surgeries and many more thulium laser prostate procedures. Stone surgery-Dr Avishek Mukherjee provides the full spectrum of endoscopic stone procedures including bladder stone surgery, Cysto Litholapaxy, ureteroscopic holmium laser stone surgery, PCNL and Mini PCNL. And also retrograde intra-renal surgery with the latest acquisition of the Olympus P7 flexible uretero-renoscope at the National Kidney and Prostate clinic. Laparoscopic reconstructive surgery- Dr Avishek Mukherjee has been one of the earliest surgeons in Eastern India to start the programme of laparoscopic reconstructive surgery. His spectrum of surgery includes laparoscopic pyeloplasty and laparoscopic ureter reimplantation. He was one of the first surgeons to begin laparoscopic Boari flap reconstruction for complex ureteral strictures in the country. He has performed the largest number of ureteral salvage procedures in cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis. He has also performed laparoscopic procedures for salvage of retrocaval ureters.
