Dr. Muralidharan graduated from Chengalpattu Medical College in 2001 and then he left to United Kingdom for advanced and specialized training in orthopedics. He had intense training in all aspects of orthopedics through structured training program at various internationally acclaimed hospitals in UK. He spent two years at world-renowned Wrightington Hospital in Manchester and this is the center where father of modern hip replacement surgery Sir John Charnley pioneered the hip replacement in 1960s . He mastered non-surgical and surgical care of all orthopedic conditions affecting hip, knee, spine, shoulder, elbow, hand, foot and ankle. Hi I am Dr.Leonard, I completed my MBBS from Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai and Radiology Postgraduate training from Stanley Medical College, Chennai. After my training in India ,I left to UK and was trained in Fetal medicine and completed my Fellowship in Fetal medicine under Professor Kypros Nicolaides at Harris Birthright research centre for fetal medicine, which is the first centre for Fetal medicine in United Kingdom located at prestigious Kings College hospital in London. I was fortunate to be trained under Professor Kypros Nicolaides who is considered as the Father and Pioneer of Fetal medicine who discovered the Nuchal translucency (11-13 week scan), Laser treatment of Twin to twin transfusion syndrome, prediction of preterm labour, preeclampsia screening and several other researches has revolutionized the practice of Obstetrics and Fetal medicine. By working under him at Kings College hospital, London- the Royal College of Obstetricians, Gynecologists and Radiologists has awarded me the Advanced Fellowship in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal medicine in 2008.I have obtained all competencies in 11-14 weeks scans with markers,18-23weeks detailed Anomaly scan, Cervix Assessment, Maternal and Fetal Dopplers,Fetal Echocardiography and Invasive procedures under him. In addition to my Fetal medicine I was fortunate to be trained in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound which is an innovative way of assessing the Musculoskeletal system and soft tissues of the body. I obtained the competency from the European college of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Imaging. Nowadays, Quality MSK Ultrasound can replace MRI if done accurately ,Also will be cost effective and therapeutic with injection of steroids in joints .The scanning in MSK is operator dependent, intricate and cumbersome. I noticed training in MSK is not yet included in the Radiology training in India and lack of awareness among the practicing doctors in general practice to utilize the simple non invasive tool. Rheumatologists and Orthopedicians are using MSK ultrasounds limitedly because of the inadequate quality of the MSK ultrasound imaging. After working in UK for 18 years, I am back to my home place Chennai due to elderly parents and family reasons. Fetal medicine Scans in India: After returning to India from UK where I worked for 18years.I was completely shocked to see some of the Nuchal ultrasound pictures here which were performed by non FMF trained Sonologists/Radiologists that do not follow the strict criteria for NT measurement which defeats the purpose of chromosomal screening in pregnant women. This is due to lack of trained Fetal medicine specialists and also no structured training in India apart from handful of institutions. My current position: I have newly started the scan centre named as London Spectra Advanced Centre for Fetal medicine and Ultrasound, Chennai. The centre is behind Apollo digital hospital, Perungudi at the moment. We are planning for expansion of the fetal medicine and ultrasound services in the new venue in near future. My special areas of interest : • Having trained in Harris birthright centre in UK my aim is to spread the awareness of proper NT screening and other aspect of fetal medicine among the Obstetricians/Sonologists/Radiologists. • Early diagnosis of fetal abnormalities and counseling and management of fetal abnormalities. • To provide World class service and wonderful experience during antenatal scans with quality imaging, excellent reports with good communication to pregnant women and their families. • Pregnancy is an emotionally challenging time of their lives; I want the women and their family experience an unforgettable quality time during antenatal scans. • To establish London Spectra advanced centre for second opinions in fetal medicine scans. • To be a trainer in fetal medicine.
