She acquired the Masters in Plastic Surgery from Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India in 1978 with distinction, She later worked as Locum S H O; Locum Registrar in Plastic Surgery and as Surgical Rotational SHO in Accident and Emergency, Orthopaedics, Burns, Thoracic Surgery in United Kingdom in various Hospitals like Ulster Hospital, Dun Donald, Belfast, N.I.U.K., Lagan Valley Hospital, Lisburn, N I.U.K, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, N.I.U.K, Whittington Hospital, Manchester, U..K. After her six year stint in U K she returned to India to envisage her dream of giving back to her home town by establishing 'Salaja Hospital' (Salaja stands for Saleem Lakshmi and Janam (meaning people in Telugu) a Private Hospital which was a ten-bedded exclusive Plastic Surgery unit to start with and has now grown to 30 beds with two operation theatres. This Hospital handles all types of Plastic & Cosmetic Surgical Procedures. Surgical Procedures ranging from 360 to 650 per year have been carried out in this Hospital since the establishment. These include minor to major procedures comprising Congenital Anomalies, Trauma, Cosmetic Surgical procedures, Micro Vascular Surgeries and management of Acute Burns and Post-Burn Deformities. This incidentally was the first of its kind in the state of Andhra Pradesh when established which has served almost 10000 patients since it's inception from various cities across India as well as from the other foreign countries. She recently worked in the UK as a Locum Registrar / Associate Specialist in Plastic Surgery, Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester, U K and as a Locum SP Registrar in Plastic Surgery at Sally Oak Hospital, Birmingham, U K. She has attended numerous national and international meetings and workshops on Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery and has presented many papers in different disciplines as well as conducted several workshops.
