Prof. Anand Swaroop Ex.-Principal and Dean G.S.V.M. Medical college is eminent academician having excellent carrier as a professor of orthopaedics in M.L.N. Medical College, Allahabad and G.S.V.M. Medical College, Kanpur. He also headed department of orthopaedics before being promoted to principal of this college. He has been examiner of under graduate and post graduate students in many colleges all over India. He has more than 50 publications in national and international journals. Osteoarthritis and degenerative spinal diseases are one of the commonly encountered diseases in our population after 40 years of age causing disability and morbidity. Prof. Anand Swaroop has been working on osteoarthritis knee for last 15 years and his vision has been to provide a treatment modality to our Indian population which should be in reach of majority of population and socially acceptable to rural and middle class urban population. Total knee replacement which has become gold standard treatment for osteoarthritis knee in western world has certain limitation in Indian population .the cost of total knee replacement is out of reach of majority of Indian population and those who could bear it had issue of limited activity after TKR.. Prof Swaroop started looking for other options of surgical management of this problem. One of his field of interest has been High Tibial Osteotomy. His other contributions to the society has been cheap surgical options for degenerative spinal diseases and neglected injuries around elbow causing stiffness of elbow. He is not driven by costly implants or irrelevant MRI findings while treating degenerative spine rather he has stronger faith in clinical examination findings which helps in reducing the extent of surgery and improves outcome. He is among very few surgeons in the country who are working on old and neglected elbow injuries. He has given smile over the faces of young and adolescent patients who had problem of stiffness of elbow following trauma.
