Dr. Lav Kochgaway is a Executive Director and Consultant at B. B. Eye Foundation, VIP, Senior Consultant at B B Eye Foundation, Director – SLR Eye and Retina Surgeons Consultant – Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, Cataract, Squint, Lasik and Ocular Trauma. Have extensive experience in handling all kinds of difficult surgical situations. Good knowledge of setting up and managing eye hospital of repute.Involved in evolution and growth of three eye hospitals in Kolkata, India. A tertiary level eye care facility with all specialties – Cataract, Retina, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Squint, Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Cornea, Neuro-opthalmology, Refractive Surgery. Special Interest – Cataract, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Squint, Trauma, Refractive Surgery. Joined as consultant in Sankara Nethralaya and was sent on deputation to RNSN, Kolkata. Was a good learning experience in improving the surgical skills and in capacity building of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department. Was in the core team of Orbis DC10 project at Kolkata in 2005. Performing live pediatric cataract surgery in the DC 10 aircraft was an enriching experience. From 2007 onwards, when Sankara Nethralaya set up its own hospital in Kolkata, He also evolved into the senior most anterior segment surgeon, handling all complicated cases. Was involved in setting up of the hospital with extremely difficult timelines to build the set up. The rise of the hospital has been meteoric in terms of the number of patients showing their confidence in us. Key Skills (Total 9000+ surgeries), phacoemulsification – routine (topical)/difficult cases both adult and pediatric, Strabismus surgeries, primary sclero-corneal wound repair, Lasik / ICL, SFIOL/CTR implantation, Other anterior segment procedures. Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology from Sankara Nethralaya. Was first candidate to join the reputed Sankara Nethralaya-Orbis Pediatric Ophthalmology Training and Learning Centre as fellow. ORBIS is a nonprofit, global development organization whose mission is to eliminate avoidable blindness by strengthening the capacity of local eye health partners in their efforts to prevent and treat blindness. He done Sankara Nethralaya-Orbis Pediatric Ophthalmology Training and Learning Center, Fellowship, Pediatric Ophthalmology, 2003 – 2004, During this period he received formal training in Pediatric Ophthalmology. He was privileged to be the first candidate to graduate from the now illustrious Sankara Nethralaya Orbis Pediatric Ophthalmology Learning and Training Center.
