Dr.Kiran Kulkarni is from Dharwad, completed his Schooling from Sri Ramakrishna VidyaShala Mysore(85-90) & holds MBBS degree from(MMC-Mysore, (90-95) Mysore University), Post Graduation in Sports Medicine (SAI-NIS Patiala & Govt. Medical College, Patiala(97-99), Punjabi University), PG Diploma in Diet & Nutrition (IHCA, Chennai), completed his FIMS - Advanced Team Physician Course from Beijing – China. He is also listed on the World Anti Doping Agency’s Researchers Directory(www.wada-ama.org/researchers). Got certified as FIFA/AFC Medical & Doping Control officer in 2013, 2015, 2017 & 2020. Completed FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine in Nov.2018
He is a Consultant in Sports Medicine, Exercise, Fitness, Nutrition & Rehabilitation, Former National Team Doctor for All India Football Federation, Medical & Anti Doping Advisor to Gymnastics Federation of India, Past Executive Council Member of Indian Association of Sports Medicine & Indian Federation of Sports Medicine & at present Joint Secretary for Indian Society for Sports & Exercise Medicine (ISSEM), BCCI / IDTM & Asian Football Confederation’s Medical & Doping Control Officer.
An International Sportsman himself, he has participated in Sub Junior, Junior & Senior National Gymnastics Championships (5 times) and All India Inter-University Gymnastics Championships (4 times). He represented India in International Acrobatics Championships held at Burgas, Bulgaria in 1989. He represented Rotary International Dist.3170 as a Team Member in Group Study Exchange Programme of Rotary Foundation as a Cultural, Peace & Friendship Ambassador to Bounis Aries, Argentina.
Indian Association of Sports Medicine conferred on him “National Award & Fellowship” for his outstanding contribution to the field of Sports Medicine in India from Sri Vijay Amritraj (Tennis Legend) at Chennai in Jan 2005(www.iasm.co.in/iasm-fellows)
In 2003, Dr.Kiran accompnied Indian M&W Gymnastics Team for the Asian Gymnastics Championships as Team Doctor held in Gaungzhou, China. In January 2009, he accompanied the National Senior Women Hockey Team to South Africa, Chile and Argentina as Indian Team Doctor, U-23 Men’s National Football Team for the AFC Challenge Cup in Colombo, Srilanka in January 2010. He was appointed as Venue Doping Control Manager at the 2010 Common Wealth Games, New Delhi. He was Team Doctor for the Senior National Football team during the Asian Cup in Jan 2011 at Doha, Qatar & AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers at KaulaLampur, Malaysia – March 2011. At present he is Asian Football Confederation’s Medical & Doping Control Officer - only Doctor from Karnataka & 1 amongst 4 in India. He had his AFC assignments as Chairman Medical Committee at AFC U-16 Qualifiers 2013 at Laos. AFC U- 16 Finals in 2014 Thailand, AFC U16 Qualifiers 2015 in Bangladesh, AFC U19 in Bahrain October 2016, AFC U16 Tournament Medical officer 2017 in Iran. FIFA appointed him at the U17 Football world cup as LOC Medical and Doping Control Officer in Goa, Oct 2017, He was in Indonesia for AFC U19 Finals Oct 2018, as Tournament Medical officer. Dr Kiran was appointed Medical Officer at the U16 AFC Football Finals held in Doha, Qatar October 2019 and Travelled to Colombo, Srilanka, for the FIFA Doping Control Officers and AFC Medical Officers course 23-28 February 2020 representing India. Dr Kiran was appointed as Medical & Doping Control officer for the Asian Champions League held in Doha, Qatar November 18 – December 15 2020.
He has been trained by BCCI Medical Department & IDTM (International Dope Testing & Management, Sweden) as Dope Control Officer. He has served as Medical & Doping Control Officer at the IPL Cricket since 2014 till date.
Dr Kiran received the “Karnataka State Olympic Award - 2017” under the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Govt of Karnataka for his outstanding achievements & contribution in the field of Sports Medicine.
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conferred on him – “Award for Meritorius Service Bronze Medal” for his contribution to the field of Football Medicine in Asia in March 2019, ONLY Indian in this category to receive this prestigious Award.
International Federation of Physical Education, Fitness & Sports Sciences Associations (IFPEFSSA) conferred on him “IFPEFSSA International Award” in recognition to his Services in the Field of “Anti Doping Education” Nationally and Internationally in July 2019, Osmania University, Hyderabad.
