Dr.Prabhu Prasad N.C is a full time consultant– Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Department at manipal hospitals,goa.He practices general pulmonary medicine with special interest in advanced lung diseases, including but not limited to interstitial lung diseases, connective tissues diseases and granulomatous lung diseases in accordance with the standard guidelines.
He Communicates effectively with patients/carers, imparts teaching and training to colleagues/juniors, educates patients and contributes to public healthcare initiatives.
Before moving to manipal hospitals goa, he served as a Staff Physician/Assistant professor at university hospital (Kasturba Hospital),KMC,Manipal.During which period he held active responsibilities in the postgraduate curriculum development for respiratory medicine at the university, along with active teaching and demonstration labs for medical students.
Dr. Prasad specializes in the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, asthma, lung cancer, sleep disordered breathing, lung failure, bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease.He specializes in advanced pulmonary procedures focused on complex airway and pleural disorders.For pleural disorders, he performs medical thoracoscopy,pleural biopsy, and long-term indwelling pleural catheters insertion.
Dr.Prasad received his undergraduation degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences (RGUHS) and obtained his postgraduate training in pulmonary medicine from govt medical college Amritsar, Punjab, one of the oldest and most reputed medical colleges in India.He received his superspeciality training-postdoctoral fellowship in pulmonology in Christian medical college, vellore a premier institute in india with international reputation focusing on interventional pulmonology and critical care.He is also a Board certified in respiratory medicine from national board of examinations (NBE),New delhi.
Areas of special interests include interventional pulmonology, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure, non-invasive ventilation (including domiciliary ventilation), sleep related respiratory disorders, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, respiratory infections including tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pleural diseases and lung cancer. He has a special interest in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for benign and malignant diseases of the lung and pleura, including Therapeutic Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound, Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy, Pleuroscopy and Bronchial Thermoplasty.He has a vision to establish “State of art Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Department with extraordinary Interventional Pulmonary program.He is a member of prestigious organisations like Indian chest society,European respiratory society and Indian medical association.
