Dr. Sushant Umre is a 1980 graduate of Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai. He maintains a practice in Delhi for the past Thirty Three years. Right from the beginning of his private practice Dr Umre learnt to practice the philosophy of conservation. He travelled widely to learn the new techniques to save teeth and teeth structure rather than radical invasive treatments. Dr. Umre did a Post Graduate Certificate Program in Aesthetic Dentistry from Suny Buffalo, USA, New York University in 1992. Dr Sushant Umre maintains a practice in Delhi for the past thirty seven years in the name of Dental Aesthetics. Dental Aesthetics is a multi-operatory multi-specialty dental office, though as the name suggests the activities of Dental Aesthetics are focused on appearance related dentistry, all general as well as specialised dental procedures are performed here. Dr. Umre has made presentations and has had hands on programs for dental surgeons on many national and international platforms for dental education of dentists. He was invited to speak from the main podium as a keynote speaker for the Common Wealth Dental Association meeting held in Delhi in 2000. He has made keynote presentations in several Indian Dental Association annual meeting. In 1992, Dr Sushant Umre got together with his professional colleagues from Mumbai to form a dental association known as Indian Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry ( IAACD). The main mission of the IAACD has been to keep Indian dentists abreast with advances in modern dentistry. Dr Umre held various offices in the organization to make the mission statement of IAACD successful. Dr Umre was elected president of the association in the year 2002. In the last two decades IAACD has contributed to more than twenty thousand dentists in India. With his huge commitment to share amongst dental professionals Dr Umre also realized that there is also this enormous need to reach modern dentistry to the poor and the underprivileged. In 2003 Dr Sushant Umre formed a charitable trust in name of Smile India. Smile India is a unique organization. On one hand it offers a platforms for dental surgeons to learn ‘new’ in dentistry on the other hand underprivileged are treated for free. Dental professionals learn under the name of a program known as ‘Share A Smile’, the very same doctors after learning, offer their services to treat the deprived for free under a program known as ‘Serve A Smile’. Smile India is the first and only NGO working relentlessly in the field of dentistry. It has created a platform where high-ended dentistry is done free of charge for the poor and the underprivileged. More than one thousand dental professionals have been through various programs held under the auspices’ of Smile India in the last ten years. And more than Ten Thousand patients have been treated in the same period at Smile India. Right in the beginning of his professional career Dr Umre also recognized importance of dental disease prevention. He understood the need to educate the common man that dental disease is preventable by intercepting with cleaning teeth properly and making teeth resistant to tooth decay by using fluorides. As early as 1985, when there was not a single mouth rinse available with fluoride as the active ingredient, Dr Umre as an entrepreneur formed a small company in name of Sandika Pharmaceuticals. Sandika got these disease prevention products manufactured and made them available to the common people. Even today thousands of patients are benefitted using these prophylactic formulations. Dr. Umre has been featured as the leading cosmetic dentist of North India in the media. Dr Sushant Umre gets to edit Dental Practice as its South Asia editor for the past eight years. Dental Practice is a south Asian edition of a prestigious British scientific Journal. More than twenty thousand dental surgeons in India get to read and learn from the scientific content of the journal once in two months. It is the largest circulated dental magazine in the region contributing to the knowledge of lakhs of dental professionals every year. In the year 2010 MediMedia launched another magazine for the dental technicians in India and requested Dr Umre to head the issue as the group editor. Dental Technician is one of a kind and only dental magazine on the dental technology available in India. Dr Umre is a founder director in Sandika Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd. Sandika specialises in oral formulation and offers wide range of prescription solutions for patients to fight dental disease. Sandika is in operation for the past twenty five years. Sandika pioneered in prophylactic dental products in India.
