Dr. Yamini Chitra is a well experienced surgical gastroenterologist and a gastro intestinal cancer specialist, with great expertise in diagnosing, treating all problems related to the field of gastroenterology from esophagus to anal canal. Her clinical acumen has helped diagnose common diseases with unusual presentations, rare problems where patients were cured of ailments which troubled them for years. Some were even referred to psychiatrists thinking they were acting up! Her special focus of interest has been hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, experience gained through treating hundreds of patients with these problems coming from north eastern parts of India, where these problems are more common. Being a lady surgeon, she has helped lot of women with problems relating to piles, passing blood in stools etc., which due to shyness, women hardly tell it in open but suffer in silence. She has great expertise and experience in treating all types of gastro related cancers starting from cancer esophagus, cancer stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreatic cancers, cancers of colon, rectum and anal canal to name a few. There are cancer survivors treated by Dr.Yamini leading healthy lives for more than ten years who live to tell the tale. Key-hole or laproscopic surgeries are performed with excellent clinical outcome. Bariatric surgeries to assist people who are over weight with metabolic problems like uncontrolled diabetes, severe osteoarthritis of knee etc., are also done which helps them lose weight and live healthy long life. She has been a great teacher to several batches of MBBS and MS post- graduate students in the past with several international publications to her credit. A two time gold medalist, she has won The Dr. Ramakrishnan Gold Medal in Paediatric Surgery in the year 2001 and the prestigious Dr.Rangabashyam Gold Medal for excellence in GI surgery in the year 2008.
