Dr Balamurugan J is a national board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with over 13 years of experience in orthopaedic practice and expertise treating a broad range of orthopaedic conditions including joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder, sports medicine including knee and shoulder arthroscopy, paediatric orthopaedics, lower-limb deformity corrections and fracture care. He graduated from the prestigious Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai. Subsequently, he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Sri Ramachandra medical college, Chennai and went on to complete National board certification, New Delhi. Understanding his keen interests in joint reconstruction and paediatric orthopaedics after residency, he proceeded to complete a formal fellowship program at the MGR university in Chennai. He had his higher training in the field of hip & knee joints replacements, arthroscopy in various centres in the UK and Germany. During his tenure in the UK, he had the opportunity to work closely with some of the world-renowned orthopaedic surgeons which enabled him to master the latest surgical techniques in the field of joints reconstruction and deformity corrections. Since entering private practice back in India, he has been honoured that many patients have trusted him for their bone and joint care. Dr Bala takes time to listen so that he may understand the unique needs of each patient. His individualised treatment plans are based on the latest scientifically proven methods for alleviating pain and restoring function. Dr Bala takes a conservative approach to surgery and is able to correct many issues without the need for surgery. He currently is a senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Rela hospital, Chennai. Apart from his association with major orthopaedic academic bodies, he is a reviewer of the “Indian journal of orthopaedics” journal. Dr Bala’s goal is to optimise function, decrease pain and to return the patient back to their active lifestyle as soon as possible. He strives to give patients all the information they need to make an informed decision about their treatment options. In addition to his surgical practice, he also treats early osteoarthritis, tendinopathies with biological injections like PRP and stem cells. Outside of orthopaedics, Dr Bala enjoys spending time with his 2 awesome kids and wife, also a seeker and yoga practitioner.
