Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is an advanced fertility treatment used to help couples who have difficulty conceiving naturally. It is a specialised form of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg in a laboratory to achieve fertilization. The technique was developed to treat male infertility problems, such as low sperm count, poor sperm movement, or abnormal sperm shape. Once healthy embryos develop, one or more embryos are transferred into the uterus to attempt pregnancy.
7. Pregnancy Test
About two weeks after embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to determine whether the procedure was successful.
The success of ICSI depends on several factors, including the age of the woman, egg quality, sperm health, and the expertise of the fertility clinic.
Research shows that fertilization occurs in about 65–80% of mature eggs using the ICSI technique.
