Dr. Shankar B. Medikeri did his Medical Graduation form Karnataka Medical College, Hubli and Masters degree in ENT from the University of Bombay with 1st Rank to his credit. He is also a fellow of International College of Surgeons. He was awarded Gold Medal and various prizes during his undergraduate & postgraduate days. Rotary Bangalore South honored him with the Gold medal for his work on Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in 1993. He has a vast experience of 36 years working in various hospitals in Bombay and in Bangalore. He was on the teaching faculty at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College for 10 years from 1985 to 1994. In 1994 he established his own Hospital called Sneha ENT Hospital at Basaveshwarnagar, Bangalore. Because of his keen interest in teaching, he attended Sri Siddhartha Medical College, Tumkur as a visiting professor for another 10 years from 1999 to 2009. He has published about a dozen articles in both National & International Journals. He has not only presented papers on various Subjects related to ENT but also participated as Guest Speaker, Moderator & Panel member in various Conferences held in India & abroad. He has keen interest in conducting Live Surgical Workshops on Microsurgery of the Ear & Larynx, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Laser Surgery, Cadaver dissection Courses on Temporal Bone and Nose & Sinuses. He has conducted three Live Surgical Workshops on Cochlear Implant-the latest state of the art Surgical Technique for a relief of total deafness. He is a member of various academic Societies & has also held executive posts like Governing body member, Hon. Secretary & President of both City & State Braches of ENT Association. He was the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery.He is the president of Cochlear implant group of India from 2015 -2017. He has organized South Zone & All India ENT Conferences in Bangalore, which has been very well attended & very much appreciated. He has Special interest in Otology and Conducts many Deafness relief Camps is the association with Rotary Clubs of Shimoga, Hubli, Honnavar etc. He organized CIGICON-2008 at Bangalore which was a grand success. He was the centennial President of Rotary Bangalore West and did many innovative projects during his tenure as the President of the Club. In January 2009, he relocated his practice from Basaveshwarnagar to Basavangudi. The state of the art Medikeri’s Superspeciality ENT Center has a full fledged facility for Cochlear implantation, Endoscopic sinus surgery, microlaryngoscopic surgery, laser surgery, Head and Neck Oncology and Facial plastic Surgery. Subsequently, he qualified for Diploma in Ophthalmology which he obtained in 1987, from the Regional institute of Ophthalmology, Govt General Hospital Madras. He shifted his focus to Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) and obtained the Diploma and Masters in Otorhinolaryngology from Manipal, Kasturba Medical College, of the Mangalore University in 1989. He has been in active practice of the diseases of the ear, nose, and throat, since 1990. He obtained the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), in the year 1998 from Chicago, USA. General Hospital, Tamil Nadu Hospitals, and Apollo Hospitals earlier, and have had specialized training in endoscopic sinus surgery, laser surgery in ENT and Cochlear Implant Surgery. He had also visited centers in Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, Laser surgery centers in USA and England, and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery workshops in the USA. He has presented many papers at National and International conferences, the latest being the role of KTP laser in Rhinology, in the 14th International Conference on Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. He was the Organizing Secretary for the South Zone Conference of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India in March 1997. He has conducted many hands-on workshops in Otology, Rhinology, and in Laser surgery in ENT. He is an active member of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, and Indian society of Otology. His area of special interest is in Rhinology and Endoscopic Sinus surgery, having attended and been trained under noted international endoscopy surgeons like P.J.Wormald – Australia, Dharambir Sethi – Singapore, Richard Wolf - Austria, Prof. Stammberger – Austria, Prof. David Kennedy – USA and Prof.Fredrick Kuhn – USA.
