Introduction

CAPD catheter insertion refers to placing a special soft tube (catheter) into the belly (abdomen) to help people with kidney failure do dialysis at home. CAPD stands for Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. This is a kind of dialysis that uses the lining of your abdomen (the peritoneum) to filter waste and extra fluid from your body when your kidneys aren’t working well.

Instead of going to a machine for hours, CAPD uses bags of dialysis fluid that flow in and out of the abdomen through the catheter. Types of CAPD Catheter Insertion

There are a few techniques for putting in the CAPD catheter:

1. Surgical Placement (Open Surgery)

2. Laparoscopic Insertion (Keyhole Surgery)

3. Percutaneous (Needle-Guided) Insertion

This method uses local anaesthesia and a needle technique to place the catheter without large cuts. It is a less invasive option usually done by an experienced team.

CAPD Catheter Insertion Procedure

Before catheter insertion, you will have tests like blood work, ultrasound, and a general check-up. Doctors want to make sure you are healthy enough for the procedure and free from infection.

Here’s how CAPD catheter insertion is generally done:

Before Surgery

- You are asked not to eat or drink for several hours.

- Your doctor explains the procedure, risks, and aftercare.

During the Procedure

1. Anaesthesia: You are given intravenous sedation or local anaesthesia depending on the method. You may be asleep or relaxed and comfortable.

2. Incision and Placement:
