Dr Soumitra Kumar

Dr. Soumitra Kumar is a Consultant Cardiologist in Kolkata, who has been practicing for the last 23 years. He studied at St. Lawrence High School with significant academic distinction. He stood Fifth in the Joint Entrance Examination to qualify for the MBBS Entrance and Graduated from Calcutta Medical College in 1985. He then obtained the MD postgraduate degree in General Medicine from Calcutta University in 1991, standing Second in the University. He further obtained a DM in Cardiology from Calcutta University in 1995. Thereafter he acquired exposure to Interventional Cardiology at St. Mary’s Hospital, London. Dr. Soumitra Kumar was appointed as a Visiting Cardiologist at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan, Peerless Hospital, Ruby General Hospital and Sri Aurobindo Seva Kendra, Kolkata in 1995. Simultaneously, he was also appointed as a Lecturer in Cardiology at the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, Kolkata, which is a Postgraduate Medical College affiliated to West Bengal Health University. Since 2004, he has been a Professor in the Cardiology Division of the Department of Medicine of this College. From February 2010, Dr. Kumar has been appointed Chief Co-ordinator of Academic Services (Cardiology) at Rabindranath Tagore Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS), Kolkata and also In-charge of DNB (Cardiology), Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology (PGDCC-IGNOU) Courses. Dr. Kumar is presently attached as Consultant Cardiologist at Fortis Hospital, Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, and Sri Aurobindo Seva Kendra.
