Dr Virendra Rajpurohit is a Renowned Consultant Cancer Surgeon. In over 14 years of practice he has carved a niche in Surgical Oncology and its subspecialties. He is the recipient of the prestigious Varoon Mahajan Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York in 2007 where he worked on treatment of Esophageal and Lung Cancers. He has also been awarded a fellowship by the Department of Esophageal Diseases at Kurume University Hospital, Japan where he worked with some of the leading esophageal surgeons in the world, including Prof H Fujita. He learnt the finer nuances of thoracoscopic esophagectomy from the pioneer himself, Prof H Osugi in Osaka, Japan. His extensive exposure to the latest technology and medical practices in world-renowned centers has fine-tuned his clinical judgment. He is associated with various national and international cancer societies and has delivered lectures and presented papers/ videos at National and International platforms. His surgical video presentations are well received and appreciated by his peers. He is also a Faculty at the Ethicon Institute of Surgical Education. He is the Organizing Secretary of the National conference of The Indian Association of Surgical Oncology, NATCON IASO 2016, to be held in Jodhpur. This will be a historical conference for the city that has not shown its presence in the field of Surgical Oncology despite having a high incidence of cancer amongst the population. After working for 8 years in Mumbai’s leading hospitals he decided to serve his hometown, where he established Jodhpur Cancer Clinic in Oct 2012, one of its kind cancer consultation center in Jodhpur. He has organized various public awareness programs in the town in terms of didactic lectures, talks, presentations, workshops, walks, rallies, camps and street plays. His initiative to spread breast cancer awareness received an overwhelming response especially events like Pink Walk and lighting historical heritage monuments in pink for the first time. In the media’s words Jodhpur had done what Washington DC did in its commitment for spreading awareness on breast cancer! An admirable, soft-spoken doctor is how his patients best describe him. His peers and colleagues vouch for his farsightedness, impeccable precision even during most difficult surgeries and admire his patience. His seniors and mentors call him one of the most hard working, innovative and passionate surgeons and list him in the top 10 surgeons of India He has performed innumerable number of Thoracic and Mediastinal surgeries, Complex Gastrointestinal cancer surgeries, Head and Neck cancer surgeries and reconstructions, Gynaecological cancer surgeries, Urological cancer surgeries, Breast cancer surgery with special interest in Breast conservation therapy & Sentinel nodal mapping and Endocrine cancer surgeries. He and his team have performed more than 50 Intra Operative Radiation Therapy (IORT) procedures for early breast cancer at the first and only center in India in Mumbai. He is also involved in Cancer screening, Counseling and Palliative care. He believes that cancer treatment is not a single person’s domain and results are achieved only with a team effort combining the best of the existing branches with oncology.
