Dr R.Jayaprakash

Dr.R. Jayaprakash did his MBBS from India’s renowned national medical college, JIPMER. After a degree in MD (Internal Medicine), he got his ACCD in Diabetes and ACLS in Critical-care cardiology. His was Registrar in the department of cardiology and cardio-diagnostic services. He has written India’s only book on Treadmill testing (Computerized Cardiac Stress Analysis). He has conducted several corporate lectures and workshops on the topic of life-style modification. He has worked at Apollo Hospital, Harvey Heart Hospital, Lady Willingdon Hospital and Aditya Hospital; all of which are at Chennai. He is now into Cardio-Diabetology practice for the past 20 years. He is currently Chief Physician of Aditya Hospital, Chennai, heading a team of doctors. Dr.R. Jayaprakash enrolled for a Ph.D in Lipids but discontinued it for a reason. During research on lipids, it became apparent that cholesterol was being wrongly maligned and that the media and some vested interests were creating an anti-cholesterol wave in society. I believe “LDL” is actually the good cholesterol doing a dirty job, which no one else wants to do. Though many would like to vilify it, pure ghee is actually good for many body functions. I feel society at large has been taken for a ride, especially by the recommendations of the American Heart Association. Till the early 19th century, doctors were treated as gods by some sections of society. “Doctor Gods” don’t exist anymore. Medical knowledge keeps changing rapidly and doctors too need to evolve and keep pace. An era of native doctors evolved into an era of general practice and then single specialty doctors. One such evolution is the multi-specialty practice of Cardio-Diabetology.
