Dr. S Murugusundram is an interventional dermatologist, founder and the medical director of Chennai Skin Foundation & Yesudian Research Institute, the first of its kind in the country. He graduated from Kilpauk medical college and did his post-graduation in dermatology from Madras Medical College. He is an innovative specialist in skin hair & nail with unique skills of systematic analysis, evidence based diagnosis and expertise in modern treatments with current updates of technology. It has been his long cherished dream of starting an Institutional center for Skin Hair & Nail dedicated to his mentor Prof. Patrick Yesudian whose principles form the basis of this unique concept. He is the founder Secretary of the Hair Research Society of India and the first Indian member of the European Hair Research Society and executive council of EHRS. He is the founder and executive Editor of the International Journal of Trichology, world’s first and only indexed journal for hair. He is the member of the International Society of Dermatology and the International Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has described New clinical entities & Diagnostic techniques such as Herbal scarring alopecia Bariatric Blonde First Asian case of Trichoteiromania Dermascopic Trichogram He has devised the systematic analysis and syndromic approach with guidelines of care for Diffuse hair loss Patterned hair loss Alopecia areata Trichotillomania He has introduced novel accessories and modifications such as Fixer and accelerator for Cryo surgery Modification of lateral nail avulsion for ingrown toe nails He has done successful research in the field of Isolation and culture of hair follicle stem cells New hair generation using bulge cells He has done many case presentations and reviews in National and International conferences and published more than 25 clinical research papers in International Hair Research conferences He has authored and contributed to many books such as HIV & Skin – Handbook, IADVL textbook of dermatology, Issue on hair by the Cosmetic Dermatology Society of India, Dermatology Times USA, International Journal of Trichology, Contact Dermatitis, Hair Disorders in children, Archives of Dermatology.
