Dr. Soumya Hegde MBBS, DPM, MRCPsych, CCT- Old Age Psychiatry (UK), MMedSci (Clinical Psychiatry)Dr. Soumya Hegde is a Consultant Geriatric Psychiatrist. After completing her post graduation in Psychiatry in India she worked in the UK for 8 years where she completed MRCPsych and specialist training in old age psychiatry. She returned to India with the hope of providing a holistic and quality geriatric mental health service here. Between 2010 and 2017 she steered the dementia care services of the Nightingales Medical Trust in Bangalore. As Associate Director of the Nightingales Center for Ageing and Alzheimer’s, she has assessed thousands of elderly patients with dementia and other mental illnesses. She specializes in managing challenging behaviors in dementia through a holistic approach which includes medication, supportive psychotherapy, individualized care plans and caregiver training.She believes that it is only through creating awareness and improving community support that we can mitigate some of the struggles endured by patients and their caregivers. She has played an active role in several awareness and advocacy campaigns. She has also conducted training programs for students, professionals and family caregivers.
