Dr Prabhakara Shetty Heggunje

Dr. Prabhakara Shetty Heggunje is the Head of the Department of Cardiology in Columbia Asia Hospitals in the Yeshwanthpur and Hebbal branches in Bangalore. After his basic graduation (MBBS) from Mysore University in 1982, he obtained his MD degree in Internal Medicine (1985) and DM degree in Cardiology (1988) from the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh. He later worked as an Attending Cardiologist in the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (MMM) in Madras and as a Senior Cardiologist in the Chest Hospital in Kuwait before re-locating to the United States of America. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine and his Fellowship in cardiovascular disease from the State University of New York in Syracuse. Following these, he worked as a Staff Cardiologist in the VA Medical Center in Syracuse before pursuing Interventional Cardiology fellowship training from the prestigious William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He later joined The Heart Group, P. Evansville, Indiana and worked there until he returned to India in May 2008. During his stay in the US, he was Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
